PAST EXHIBITIONS

‘CATARACT GORGE ABSTRACTS’, WANGARATTA PERFORMING ARTS FOYER.

JANUARY 2017

Selected works from 'The Gorge' series. This work was completed in 2015 following a 4 week artist's residency at 'The Gatekeeper's Cottage', Cataract Gorge, Launceston, Tasmania (courtesy of Launceston City Council). This work was inspired by the structure within rock formations in Cataract Gorge, the changing  tide flow, as well as the subtle imprint various industries left behind over time. The tide flow in the murky Tamar river submerged/revealed 3m of rock face every day, slowly revealing or hiding its structure, a ready metaphor for so many ideas...

Further up Cataract Gorge are the remains of Australia's first Hydro Electricity Plant. Throughout the Gorge there is evidence of Man's entrepreneurial impact on the natural environment; the park, the old laundries, the remains of the wooden fresh water carrying aqueduct...

‘RETURN BY FIRE’, ART SPACE WODONGA

2016

'Return by Fire' is the second Art Space Wodonga exhibition. Among other things it dealt with the challenges of producing a serious body of creative work while also supporting a growing family, hence the title. This exhibition comprised of about 40 works from before, during, and immediately after the Tasmanian Residency at Cataract Gorge.

‘LOOKING BACK BEFORE THE NEXT SHOW’, CATHY ODDIE CONTEMPORARY ART SPACE, WANGARATTA.

2015

This was a bit of an overview of past work in anticipation of the forthcoming Art Space Wodonga show. It was the inaugural exhibition at COCAS, a short-lived gallery space at 'Made in Clay', Cathy Oddie's ceramic studios in Wangaratta. Short lived mainly due to Centrelink's inflexible approach to appropriate use of unemployable people's time. Cath and Paul's support was fantastic, check them out: http://www.madeinclay.com.au/
